Clara May Barker - Dougherty

Clara May (McCready) Barker-Dougherty, 91, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away on March 31, 2024, at Credo Senior Living Center in Chanute, Kansas. Clara was born on May 7, 1932, in Brazilton, Kansas, to Arthur James and Lucy May (Johnson) McCready.  Clara was united in marriage to William (Bill) Barker in June 1950, in Thayer, Kansas, he preceded her in death. Later she was united in marriage to Wayne Dougherty in May of 1993, in Thayer, Kansas, he has also preceded Clara. 

Clara was a dedicated Regional Supervisor for Braum's food Chain and a loving homemaker. She found joy in sewing, gardening, quilting, cats, and interior designing. Clara graduated from Thayer High School in 1950. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and gentle spirit.

She is survived by her children, Jim Barker of Corinth, Texas,  Jeanine Tos, of Wichita, Kansas, and a stepdaughter Ruth Lloyd of Hutchinson, KS. Clara is also remembered by her grandchildren, Jessica Barker Pickett, Keith Barker, Janay Tos, and Mat Tos, her step-grandchildren, David Lloyd, and Rachel Dougherty–Moffet, as well as great-grandchildren Peyton Leuci, Landen Barker, Brooklyn Pickett, and Aidyn Ashpole. Clara’s step-great-grandchildren, are Jonathan Bolivar, Eden Rominger, Gabriel Lloyd, and Jace Moffett. She also welcomed her first step-great-great-grandchild, Penelope Bolivar.

Clara May Dougherty was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Bill Barker and Wayne Dougherty, a son, Richard Barker, and a stepson Curtis Dougherty. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. 

Memorials are suggested to the Thayer City Museum and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home. 

A Visitation will be held, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas. 

Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at Thayer Cemetery, Thayer, KS.
