Charles Edward Farmer

Charles Edward Farmer, 80, a longtime resident of the Altoona area, formerly of Fall River, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at his home. He was born October 1, 1926 in Signal Hill, California, the son of Charles Emery and Katy Jane (Wickersham) Farmer. He was a graduate of Fall River High School and attended Emporia State University for four years. In 1944 he entered the United States Army and served until 1946, receiving the rank of Tech 5. Following his military service, he worked in the steel mills in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and then returned to Wilson County and worked at the Neodesha Standard Refinery until it closed. He worked for Nu-Way hauling campers for a time and then became a maintenance man for the Kansas Department of Transportation where he retired in 1992. On June 1, 1955 in Peabody, Kansas, he married Edna Louia. She survives at their home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altoona and a 56 year member of the A.F.&A.M. Fall River Lodge #163. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Edna, include: Three sons & daughter in law: William Farmer of Altoona, KS Kenneth & Joann Farmer of Altoona, KS Robert Farmer of Altoona, KS Two sisters-in-law: Velma Moore of Altoona, KS Geneva Louia of Altoona, KS Brother in law & spouse Robert & Roberta Louia of Altoona, KS 6 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles "Chuck" Farmer; one grandson, Mathew Farmer; two brothers, William and John Farmer; one sister, Mary Riggs; and three brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 14, 2006 Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Monte Stevicks and Rev. Jeremiah Morris officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in his name with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Altoona Cemetery, and Fall River Masonic Lodge #163.
