Charlene Marie (Grant) Riley, 78, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away on January 26, 2024, at her home. She was born on July 27, 1945, in Fort Scott, Kansas, to Charles S. Grant Jr. and Darlene M. (Ball) Grant. Charlene graduated from Uniontown High School in 1963 and furthered her education at Fort Scott Community College.
Charlene was a compassionate and caring individual who opened her home to over 20 international students as a guardian, along with her husband Lonnie Riley, who preceded her in death in January of 2023. Lonnie and Charlene were united in marriage at First United Methodist Church in Chanute, Kansas, on August 29, 1992. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Chanute, where she contributed to various community initiatives, including Just Another Tuesday Meal and community Thanksgiving meals.
In her professional life, Charlene owned and operated Farmers Insurance Group, serving the community for many decades. Her dedication and commitment made a lasting impact on the lives of those she served.
Charlene is survived by her sister, Mary (Brian) Viel of Hutchison, KS, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three brothers, Kenneth, Phillip, and Gary Dale.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Chanute, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to First United Methodist Church and can be left with or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, located at 500 North Forest, Chanute, Kansas.
