Cecelia Studebaker, 88, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Villa St. Francis in Olathe, Kansas. She was born September 11, 1920 in Fall River, Kansas, the daughter of Alfred Stephen and Julia (West) Violett. She attended Fredonia High School and at the age of 60, studied and received her G.E.D. On April 3, 1940 in Eureka, Kansas, she married Calvin Eli Studebaker. He preceded her in death August 7, 2000. She was raised as a child in the catholic church. Cecelia was an avid quilter with the Gold Dust Quilters and the Sacred Heart Quilters. She also enjoyed working for her sons at Studebaker Refrigeration, cleaning part-time at J.C. Penneys and hairdressing for her friends and neighbors out of her home. Cecelia always loved to garden and share her flowers and vegetables. Her Survivors include: Four children: Ruth Ann (Dean) Goodman of Benton, Kansas Tom (Shirley) Studebaker of Fredonia, Kansas Jack (Jean) Studebaker of Fredonia, Kansas Kay (Steve) Thomas of Olathe, Kansas One brother: Pat Violett of Olathe, Kansas Two sisters: Esther Meeks of Apache Junction, Arizona Julia "Patsy" Ross of El Dorado, Kansas Six Grandchildren and Six Great-Grandchildren She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward Violett. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 26, 2008 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Father Stephen Baxter officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in her name with the Gold Dust Hotel and may be sent to the funeral home.
