Carl Wilford Payne, 83, a resident of rural Buffalo, Kansas, died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born May 12, 1923 in rural Roper, Kansas, the son of William M. and Blanche (Johnston) Payne. He was a graduate of Benedict High School and a lifelong farmer and rancher. On December 2, 1955 in Yates Center, Kansas, he married Florence Shively. She survives at their home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia; the Blue Lodge in Benedict, where he was a past district deputy; the Elks (B.P.O.E.); Rural Watershed District; and the National Rifle Association. He also served as a 4-H leader. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Florence, include: One Son: Roger Payne of Buffalo, KS One Daughter: Cynthia Durham of Fredonia, KS 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Goldie Lynn Payne. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia with Rev. Charlotte Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery near Roper, Kansas with Masonic Rites. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Wednesday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in his name with the Parkinson"s Foundation and the American Heart Association and may be sent to the funeral home.
