Carl William Scott, Jr., 64, a lifelong resident of the Fredonia, Fall River and Howard area, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at his home in Fredonia. He was born February 20, 1945 in Eureka, Kansas, the son of Carl W. and Mary (Shipman) Scott, Sr. Carl served in the United States Army 1965-1967, during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of SP4. On May 5, 1975 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he married Freda McCarty. She survives at their home. Carl was a talented repairman who worked for Harlan"s Hardware and Steve"s Hardware for more than 20 years. He had also worked for M. Katch & Company, the Pontiac Garage and did some farming. Carl was a lifetime member of the Fredonia VFW Post 3018. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Freda, include: His mother: Mary Houston of Eureka, Kansas Five daughters: Carla Cunduff of Clinton, Iowa Tammy McGaugh of Fredonia, Kansas Fonda Neese of Ashland, Mississippi Cindy Sele of Fredonia, Kansas Betty Corley of Mesa, Arizona One son: Donnie Selby of Fredonia, Kansas Three sisters: Janie Elliott of Howard, Kansas Reta Strotkamp of Wichita, Kansas Cheryl Tyson of Russell, Kansas 18 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Larry Selby. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Timmons Chapel with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. Visitation at Timmons Funeral Home will be Thursday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., with the family receiving friends 6:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Carl"s name with the Avenue of Flags and may be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence for the family may be left on this website.
