Billie Eloise Youngstrom

Billie Eloise Youngstrom, 88, a resident of Pittsburg, Kansas, formerly of Fredonia, Kansas, died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg. She was born September 18, 1925 in Peru, Kansas, the daughter of Maurice Emerson and Fannie Evelyn (Meacham) Straight. Billie attended elementary and high school in Eureka, Kansas, and furthered her education at Wichita Business College and Emporia State College. Through the years, Billie was employed by the Livestock Commerce in Wichita, Georgia-Bergin Engineers, Martin Insurance Company in Kansas City, Rich-Con Wholesale Hardware in Shawnee, and retired in 1989 as a bookkeeper for K-Mart Corporation. On February 2, 1947 in Fredonia, Billie was married to Maurice Youngstrom. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1999. Billie was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia where she was the Sunday school superintendent for six years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Tuesday Study Club, and Tri Sig Sorority at Emporia State/Kansas State Teachers College. She was also a member and served as president of the Fredonia Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Christian Women"s Fellowship. Her survivors include: Daughters: Martha and Bob Scallan of Plano, TX Mary and Will Crozier of Pittsburg, KS Donna and Don Brickman of Chapel Hill, NC Son: Donald and Teresa Youngstrom of Merriam, KS Niece: Penny Weger Strong Seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren Her parents, husband, and sister, Bernice Elaine Weger preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Fredonia with Mike Jeffers officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Billie"s name with the Crohn"s and Colitis Foundation and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home.
