Beulah "Maude" Cook, 89, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas died Monday, February 25, 2013 at Heritage Health Care in Chanute, Kansas. She was born October 31, 1923 in Fredonia, one of six children born to Robert C. and Beulah J. (West) Cummings. She was raised in Wilson County, attended schools in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1941. Following graduation, she worked for Hollis Hardware and Dr. Duncan. In April 1943, she married Harlin Cook and moved to Roper, Kansas. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before his passing in 2010. Maude was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia. While the couple moved throughout their married lives with Harlin"s employment, she never lost, and often expressed her desire to return to live in her "hometown" Fredonia. After his passing, she did just that. Throughout her adult life, she remained active with members of her high school graduation class and helped organize their reunions throughout the years, as long as her health allowed. To her, Fredonia"s Homecoming was always a special, "not-to-be-missed" event as she always enjoyed visiting with her school friends. Maude collected cookbooks and treasured trying a new recipe for family gatherings. With exception of brief employment outside of the home, she was a homemaker and stay-at-home mother for the majority of her life. In addition to her husband, Harlin, she was preceeded in death by her parents; a son, J.R. Cook; her sister, Juanita (Cummings) Dove; four brothers, Robert Cummings Jr., Chet Cummings, Howard Cummings and Max Cummings.
