Bennie F. "Ben" Scott

Bennie F. "Ben" Scott, 84, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born March 20, 1927 in Turpin, Oklahoma, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Lucille (Tepner) Scott. He attended country school in Seward County, Kansas. Ben served in the United States Army as a Tech 5 from May 31, 1945 to November 7, 1946 and during that time was stationed in Germany. A contractor by trade, Ben was employed for many years by Arcole Midwest, working on several major projects, including construction of the Fall River Dam. For several years, he farmed in Iowa, and upon returning to Fredonia, built and remodeled homes until his retirement. Ben was united in marriage to Ming Toy Bryson and they were later divorced. He was later married to Irene Boyer and they divorced. In January of 1992, Ben married Billie (Showers) Shue. She preceded him in death April 25, 2011. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. in Fredonia. Ben"s survivors include: Three brothers: John Scott of Fredonia, KS Dewey Scott of Mahomet, IL Gary Scott of West Burlington, IA Three sisters: Lillie Mae Kissinger of Mulvane, KS Lora Bell Ramsey of Medford, OK Karen Shinn of Topeka, KS His parents and one adopted son, Lloyd Scott, preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Bachelder Cemetery, southwest of Fredonia, with Pastor Milo Steffen of the First Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Saturday morning, 9:30 A.M.-10:30 A.M. A memorial has been established in Ben"s name with the Fredonia Flag Fund and contributions can be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence for the family may left on this website.
