Bennie Ann Hicks

Bennie Ann Hicks, 89, a resident of Neodesha, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha. She was born April 12, 1925 in Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of William Benson and Cora Merle (Darrough) Hicks. Bennie was a graduate of Arkansas City High School. While living in Arkansas City, she worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Bennie lived in Osawatomie, Kansas for many years before moving to Fredonia and then to Neodesha. While living at the Golden Living Center in Neodesha, she was loved and cared for by all of the staff. Ron and Deanette Cashman and their family were one of the greatest joys in her life, as they shared their lives with her for many years. Bennie Ann will always be remembered by everyone as "kind, sweet and beautiful." She was beautiful inside and out and she loved puppies and babies. Bennie will be missed. Survivors include her brother, Bob Shuster and wife Arlene of Escondido, CA; her nieces and nephews, Marilyn (Maril) Tart of Monroe, GA, Charles Hicks of Arkansas City, KS, Bill Shuster of Fallbrook, CA, Richard Shuster of Escondido, CA, Cheryl Hernandez of Escondido, CA, Scott Grant of Caney, KS, and Joy Grant of Danville, CA; and her Neodesha family, Ron and Deanette Cashman. Her parents, William and Cora Hicks; brother, Merlyn Hicks; and sisters, Nadine Grant and Bonnie Jones preceded her in death. Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Cowley County Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Arkansas City.
