Arvin R. Blaker, 81, of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Arvin Reed Blaker was born December 3, 1935 in rural Altoona, Kansas the son of Fred Blaker and Susie (Crawshaw) Blaker. He grew up in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1953.
On July 15, 1977 in Miami, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Sharon Cox and she survives at the home.
Arvin served in the United States Army and National Guard from 1957 until honorably discharged in 1963.
He was owner operator of Blaker’s Service Station for 41 years. He worked as mechanic and radiator repair form 1954 and retiring in 2005. In his earlier years he worked as a surveyor in Lawrence and also at the Coop in Fredonia.
Arvin built jet boats, drag cars, street rods and was a motorcycle enthusiast.
He was a member of the Old Iron Club, Tri Valley Street Rod, Meals On Wheels, Jaycees, New
Albany Methodist Church and First Christian Church of Fredonia.
Survivors include his wife Sharon of the home, brother, Ivan Blaker of New Albany, Kansas, god child Erica Henderson of Lawrence, Kansas, nieces, Susan Blouch and Laura Henderson of Fredonia, 1 great nephew, 3 great nieces, 2 great great nephews and 2 great great nieces.
Graveside memorial services will be held 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Fredonia City Cemetery.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Old Iron Club and they may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
