Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Brown

Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Brown, 71, of rural Altoona, Kansas passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at her home with her family by her side.

Mary Kathryn Brown was born January 21, 1946 in Neodesha, Kansas the daughter of Eddie V. Spaht and Lois (Hare) Spaht. She attended Lafontaine schools until its closing and graduated from Elk City High School in 1964.

On June 1, 1964 at the Lafontaine Christian Church she was united in marriage to Rex Brown and he preceded her in death October 6, 2016.

Her favorite hobby and legacy will be a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Kathy’s lifetime occupation was motherhood. She worked as a meat wrapper and bookkeeper for 20 plus years. She assisted her husband with his bail bonding business for many years before their retirement.

She lived in Fredonia from 1964 until 2000 when she moved to rural Altoona.

Kathy served on the Altoona Public Library Board and was an individual volunteer for the NRCS Earth Team.

Survivors include son Ricky Brown of Fredonia, Kansas, Pam Walker of Altoona, Kansas, Chary Weilert of Fredonia, Kansas, sisters, Doris McGregor of Rogers, Arkansas, Karen Ratzlaff of Moundridge, Kansas, brother, Jack Spaht of McPherson, Kansas, grandchildren, Russell Brown, Ashlee Brown, Ethan Walker, Ely Walker, Lindsay Walker, Caleb Weilert, Elizabeth Hutfles, Joel Hutfles and Matthew Weilert.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 14, 2017 at Wickham
Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Street, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the funeral home.

Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in Mt. Pleasant/Bellview cemetery.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Altoona Public Library or Wilson County Conservation Auxiliary Wildflower Tour Account and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
