John D. Smith

John D. Smith, 62, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at home.

John D. Smith was born August 10, 1955 in Independence, Kansas the son of James Raymond Smith and Vera D. (Anderson) Smith. He grew up in Cherryvale and attended Cherryvale schools.

On November 26, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Beth Lagow and she survives at the home.

John was a man that could do and fix everything. He was good with his hands. He worked as a maintenance man as a plumber and electrician. John was also a good mechanic.

John loved to cook and spend quality time with his grandchildren and family. He will be remembered for his smile, brutal honesty and was ornery at times.

Survivors include his wife Beth of the home, daughters, Amy Smith of Copan, Oklahoma, Tiffany Smith of Coffeyville, Kansas, siblings, RayeLynn Moran of Cherryvale, Kansas, Debbie Hagan and her husband Ron of Wichita, Kansas, Linda Hensen and her husband Chet of Cherryvale, Kansas, brother in law, Paul Perez of Augusta, Kansas, grandchildren, Devin, Jalena, Alayna, Callie, MaKiah, Eden, Shaeli, and Kaiden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Smith and sister, Cindy Perez.

Celebration of Life Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 23, 2017 at First Southern Baptist Church in Cherryvale.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2017 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the John D. Smith Grandchildren Education Fund and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
