Donald “Don” R. Mustain, 85, of Altoona, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
Donald Ray Mustain was born January 25, 1936 in Neodesha, Kansas the son of Olen Mustain and Maggie (Hall) Mustain. He grew up in Pitkin, Colorado and Neodesha, Kansas, graduating from Neodesha High School in 1954.
On May 31, 1975, in Minneola, Kansas he was united in marriage to Wanda Beeson and she survives at the home.
Don served with the United States Army National Guard as a mechanic in the motor pool.
He was self-employed and was the owner operator of Mustain Auto Body in Altoona since graduating high school in June of 1954. He also was a cattle rancher and owned many rental houses.
Don enjoyed working his cattle, hunting, riding horses and anything that was outdoors.
He was elected to the Altoona City Council and was Mayor for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Altoona when he was younger.
Survivors include his wife Wanda of the home, children, son John Mustain and wife Brandi of Altoona, Kansas; daughter Donna Sandbothe and husband Stephen of Neodesha, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Jacob Sandbothe, Chance Mustain, Jace Sandbothe, Makayla Mustain, Mason Mustain and sister, Jean Prosser and husband Karlos of Jefferson City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Wayne and Leon Mustain and sister, Jerry Ray.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Altoona City Cemetery.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children or Altoona-Midway USD #387 Education Foundation and they may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 North 7th, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
