Arlo L. Crawshaw

Arlo L. Crawshaw, 91, a lifelong resident of Wilson County, Kansas, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Neodesha, Kansas. He was born January 15, 1920 in Fredonia, the son of Thomas James and Lulu Elizabeth (Leiss) Crawshaw. He attended school in Wilson County, and claimed he graduated from the "school of hard knocks." On February 12, 1941 in Fredonia, Arlo married Vivian Shue. Together they owned and operated The Punkin Creek Ranch in Chetopa Township since 1947. Vivian preceded him in death October 7, 1986. Arlo was very active in several organizations, including Farm Bureau, Neosho Valley Dairy Co-Op, FHA Advisory Council, Rural Fire Department, Organizer of Water District #10, Wilson County Republican Central Committee, and the Do-Si-Do and Square Stoppers Square Dance Club. The couple received the Soil Conservation Award and taught square dance to local 4-H kids. Arlo also enjoyed making homemade wine. In addition, Arlo and Vivian established two scholarships at Kansas State University in engineering and agriculture. Survivors include: Four sons: Claude & Karen Crawshaw of Channahon, IL Johnny and Jane Crawshaw of Clay Center, KS Vern and Teresa Crawshaw of Altoona, KS Dale and Debbie Crawshaw of Sabetha, KS One daughter: Donna Sue Crawshaw of Riley, KS Sister-in-law: Neva Crawshaw of Denver, CO Nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren Arlo"s parents; sisters, Susie Blaker and Dorothy Johnson; and brothers, Ralph, Walter, Paul and Tom, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Timmons Chapel with Rev. Kenny Richards officiating. Burial will be in the Harrison Cemetery near Thayer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 15. Memorials have been established in Arlo"s name with the Arthritis National Research Foundation, Wilson Medical Center Foundation, and the Do-Si-Do Square Dance Club and contributions can be sent to the funeral home.
