Rex J. Brown

Rex Junior Brown Rex J. Brown, 73, of Altoona, Kansas passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Rex Junior Brown was born September 25, 1943 in Cherryvale, Kansas the son of Lawrence Brown and Edith (Wheeler) Brown. He grew up in Altoona and graduated from Altoona High School in 1962. On June 1, 1964 he was united in marriage to Kathy Spaht in Lafontaine, Kansas and she survives at the home. Rex worked as a meat processor and bail bondsman. He was owner operator of Brown"s Processing in Fredonia, Kansas for many years. Rex spent his final days being around his family. He loved to be on the water whether it be on the river behind his home or in Colorado. Fishing, hunting squirrels and looking for arrowheads were a few favorite hobbies Rex enjoyed. In his earlier years he and his wife liked to square dance. He served as President of the Fredonia Promenaders. Survivors include his wife Kathy of the home, children, Rick Brown and his wife Amy of Fredonia, Kansas, Pam Walker and her husband Jeff of Altoona, Kansas, Chary Weilert and her husband John of Fredonia, Kansas; sister, Dorothy Anderes of Coffeyville, Kansas; 9 grandchildren, Russell Brown, Ethan Walker, Ashlee Brown, Ely Walker, Caleb Weilert, Lindsay Walker, Elizabeth Hutfles, Joel Hutfles, Matthew Weilert; 2 great grandchildren, Hudson Brown and Marley Brown. Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 10, 2016 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th, Fredonia, Kansas with Gene Benefiel, officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mt. Pleasant/Belleview Cemetery south and west of Fredonia. Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Altoona Public Library or Wilson County Historical Society and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
