JOHN LEROY HANCHETTJohn L. Hanchett, 93, of Cherryvale, KS passed away unexpectedly Friday at his home.John Leroy Hanchett was born July 20, 1921 at Mound Valley, Kansas the son of Charles Alfred Stanley Hanchett and Alma Inez (Smith) Hanchett.He grew up"in the Mound Valley area and attended local schools. After school he enlisted with the United States Army and served during World War II.On July 7, 1947 in Mound Valley, Kansas he was united in marriage to Betty Carson and she preceded him in death December 30, 2010.John worked for John Deere/Funk Manufacturing as a shipping foreman and retired after over 25 years. He loved puttering around in his workshop, working on cars and remodeling.He attended the Cherryvale Nazarene Church and was a faithful attendee every month of the Cherryvale Men"s Breakfast.Survivors include, one son Charles Hanchett of Rogers, Arkansas, three daughters, Kandace Churchill of Lawrence, Kansas, Debra Adams of Port Angeles, Washington, Denise Condon of Cherryvale, Kansas, one sister, Charlene Blackburn, Aumsville, Oregon, three grandchildren, Natalie Churchill, Alex Condon, Dylan McDiarmid, six great grandchildren, Cameron Churchill, Amara Brown, Kaylee Brown, Keion Brown, Kenny Condon, and Oaklee McDiarmid.Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas. Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 A.M. until service time Wednesday with the family greeting friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time.Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Cherryvale Men"s Breakfast and can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
