GLEN RICHARD OWENSGlen R. Owens, 85, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at his home with family by his side.Glen Richard Owens was born December 6, 1930 in Clarksburg Township, Shelby County, Illinois the son of George Owens and Addie (Smith) Owens. He grew up in Illinois and graduated from Beecher City High School in 1948.He served with the United States Navy from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954 attaining the rank of Boiler Technician-Petty Officer Third Class (BT3).On August 24, 1954 in Boston, Massachusetts he was united in marriage to Kay Tavanese and she preceded him in death March 5, 2005. He moved to Coffeyville in July of 1955.Glen worked as a carpenter his entire life. He worked for Wayne Bishop of Bishop Construction and in later years was self-employed owner of Owens Construction.He was a member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville, Lifetime member of Coffeyville Veterans of Foreign Wars and Carpenters Local Union. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver award for being a distinguished adult leader on helping better the lives of youth through his community service.Glen will be remembered for being a giving and caring man and not wanting anything back in return. His favorite hobby was building houses.Survivors include son, George R. Owens and wife Deanna of Liberty, Kansas, daughter, Roberta K. Bentz and her husband Daniel of Dixon, Illinois, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, grandson, Thadd Owens and granddaughter, Hawley Owens.Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 13, 2016 at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, 416, West 2nd, Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may sign the register book from 12 Noon until 4:00 P.M. Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the church.Interment will follow the services at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville.Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Thaddeus Lee Owens Memorial Scholarship and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
