George L. Wolf, 73, of Independence, Kansas passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.George Lester Wolf was born July 19, 1942 in Cortland, New York the son of Louie Oliver Wolf and Betty Jane (Brown) Wolf. He grew up in New York and attended schools in Dryden, New York. At the age of 17 he enlisted with the United States Air Force in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1962.On April 11, 1964 in Independence, Kansas he was united in marriage to Karen Mundy and she survives at the home.George served as Leadman at the Buzzi Unicem Cement Plant in Independence, where he was an operator and maintained large equipment. He worked at the cement plant from October 13, 1975 and retired November 28, 2004.George loved fishing, old cars and keeping busy. He was very proud of his 80 acre farm on South 10th street where he raised Limousine cattle.He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa.George was a member of the American Legion in Independence.Survivors include his wife Karen of the home, five children, Rodney, Tracy, Michael, Robin, Scott, five siblings, Edward, Richard, Tom, Dean, Rose, seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, aunt, May and best friend, Gary Mundy.He was preceded in death by his parents.Friends may sign the register book from 12Noon until 8:00 P.M. Monday at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.Private family services will be held at a later date.Memorial remembrances are suggested to AWOL and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
