DONALD MAURICE VINEYARDDonald "Don" Vineyard, 83, of rural Edna, Kansas passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Oswego Community Hospital.Donald Maurice Vineyard was born March 21, 1931 in Cherryvale, Kansas the son of Claude William Vineyard and Ida (McGuire) Vineyard. He grew up in the Independence area and attended country schools in the Coal Creek area south of Independence.On January 6, 1948 in Independence, Kansas he was united in marriage to Jackie Mundy and she survives at the home. They made their home on south 10th street in Independence until 1996 when they moved to their current home in rural Edna.Don was a welder and laborer for Universal Atlas Cement Plant in Independence for 31 years until he retired June 10, 1979. After his retirement Don stayed busy helping his son with his Dozer business and farming and ranching.He had hobbies of farming, gardening and just good hard work. He had a real good sense of humor and was known by many as a "corker."Survivors include his wife Jackie of the home, son, Steven James Vineyard of Edna, Kansas, daughter, Sharon Kay Allen of Liberty, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.He was preceded in death by one son Douglas Eugene Vineyard in 1995.Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Harrisonville Cemetery southwest of Independence.Memorial remembrances are suggested to Southern Care Hospice and they can be mailed or left"at Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale.
